Read Week was a success!

Read Week was a success!

Thank you to the 155 ASA students who read for 20 minutes for 20 days! Thank  you to the parents for encouraging their reading habits!

On Monday ASA students sat outside the Elementary office and read non-stop for 7 and ½ hours!

Throughout the week parents and family members came into the classrooms to read stories and books to the students!

On Wednesday students came to school in their pajamas for Pajama and Popcorn day. Each class was able to spend 1 hour in the library reading their favorite books, eating popcorn, watching movies, or playing board games. One of the movies that was screened was “Lost and Found” based on the picture book by Oliver Jeffers. The movie tells the touching story of a penguin who ends up on the doorstep of a young boy and their unlikely friendship. The animated movie received 61 international awards.

Thursday was Book Character day! Students came dressed as Harry Potter, Pippi Longstocking, and a host of other amazing characters. At 8:45am the students, led by the high school and middle school band, paraded through the entire ASA campus, ending in the MPR. Each student that completed a reading log received a piece of tape and…….helped stick Coach to a wall!

On Friday the ASA Library held the Book Fair with Scholastic books along with books from El Lector, Oceano, and Yuki Comics. Students were able to pick out some great books to keep them reading throughout the year!

All in all, Read Week was a great success. Thank you to everyone at ASA for making the week special and encouraging reading within our community!
