Welcome Back!
In order to support the first goal, we have modified our Advisory program to include Sustained Silent Reading periods on Mondays (in English) and Wednesdays (in Spanish). We are also using MAPRIT scores and the DeCartes continuum to help us identify student weaknesses in reading comprehension and language usage so that we can differentiate our instruction to more effectively meet individual student needs. Additionally, we have created a school-wide literacy committee focused on helping integrate best practice literacy instruction into all classrooms, not just those of Language Arts teachers.To support the second goal, selected teachers at all three buildings have formed an assessment committee which meets regularly to review the literature regarding what is best practice for assessment methodology. At the end of our final full day of Professional Development training on April 15, this group will present their recommendations to their peers at elementary, middle and high school for adoption.
