College Prep Club
What led us to create this club?
Greetings ASA family!
As we know, ASA is a big friendly community in which everyone unconditionally helps and supports each other. As individuals, we feel the urge to create a link among us, with monthly reports of the important events and tips helping the high school students overcome their fears and doubts. When we started to talk about college, we realized that we had many things in common and we were not prepared for our upcoming "duties". We understand that the students, being at an extremely important phase in their lives, sometimes need some help and a friendly push to achieve their goals and dreams. High school is a 4 year lasting roller coaster. It will be hard sometimes, and easy in others, students will be pleased about their future, but scared at the same time. These are all phases that each and every one of us will eventually have to go through. So here we are, to help these students during those harsh and exciting moments.
What is our purpose?
As we started to understand the expectations lay in front of us, we realized that we were too unprepared. We can assure you that probably the majority of the people that have gone through this stage have also found that they were unprepared. This feeling is what actually made many accept this preparation stage stressful and fearful. However, if you are fully prepared and confident about yourself, then it could actually become the most meaningful and enjoyable moments of your life.
Our main purpose throughout our junior and senior year in this club is to give you specific tips on how to be prepared for your future. We want to be sure that you are well-informed so that these stages of preparation can be a time of joy.
What are we currently doing?
The club is created by four of us and helped by Mr. Mellman, our guidance counselor and sponsor of our club. The club meeting is on every Wednesdays in library after school. In our first meeting, we searched our dream colleges and majors. After searching several colleges, we shared and discussed about them to shard which colleges best fit us according to our GPA, SAT, or AP scores and by scholarships.
What do we plan to do in the future?
We have set up several plans for our future club activities. First of all, we plan to publish a monthly club newsletter regularly in order to report on our club activities as well as information about things related to college. We will be happy to receive questions from those who would like to know more about college. Also, we plan to give a presentation to middle school students who are still unfamiliar with high school. We hope that, by letting them know about their upcoming future, that they will be motivated earlier. Furthermore, we are waiting to be part of the first College Fair in Paraguay, which will be held in our school. By participating and helping, we will get more information from the colleges; keep in touch with some of the admission board, so that we can provide richer information. In the long run, we wish to make this club continue even after we graduate from high school. Therefore, we will gather some future juniors to join our club once we are done with our college applications in order to show them how our club works. We hope to make this club one of the traditions at ASA to help high school students who are facing with the first big challenge in the course of their lives.
